Hello Techstravaganza Friends!

Come join us as we dive into Part 2 of our series on Mozilla Thunderbird, an email/calendar application for the Mac and the PC. In the first part of the tutorial, we will take a brief look at the Thunderbird calendar on the Mac. Afterwards, we will dive into managing Email in Thunderbird on the PC.

Special Announcement: Current glitch with Google Meet on iPhone and iPad, and how to resolve it

Hello Techstravaganza friends,

A current glitch within Google Meet has been brought to our attention that both Ali and myself have tested and were both able to reproduce. I thought I would give you a heads up in case any of you encounter the same glitch tomorrow afternoon. 

Please note that when joining on mobile (iPhone or iPad), if it doesn’t take you directly to the meeting area, but instead you get a page explaining what Google Meet is, please uncheck the checkbox that says “Save your place in the app”. Then click on “Open”, and you will be taken to the meeting area where you’ll be able to click “Join”. If the box is checked, which is the case by default, clicking the Open button will bring you to the Google Meet listing in the App Store. If this does not work, please don’t hesitate to reach out, and I’ll be delighted to help you troubleshoot.

Last week, we took a look at using Thunderbird to read, compose and manage emails on the Mac. On this week’s tutorial, we’ll take a look at the Thunderbird calendar feature on the Mac, and we will then explore Thunderbird on the PC, as per participants’ request.

Important Announcement:

Return to Google Meet as of Wednesday, June 18

It is with regret that we inform you that as of Wednesday, June 18’s workshop, we will be required to return to Google Meet for all sessions going forward. Over the last couple of weeks, Zoom has implemented updates to their software which resulted in problematic accessibility issues, now making it almost impossible for us as screen reader users to effectively schedule and host a meeting. After much thought and further testing, we felt that returning to Google Meet would be the best course of action, and will allow us to continue to provide weekly workshops to help you along on your technological journey. This being said, we can appreciate and completely understand the frustration of having to switch back and forth between platforms, and wish to extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience. We hope that you will continue to join us on our journey, and I’m more than happy to assist anyone who is experiencing difficulty with the Google Meet platform in order to ensure that you’ll be able to join us and get the most out of our workshops.
